HERRIARD I vs. OLD BASING II (A)
The rain got in the way of a fantastic game at Old Basing for the first team. A superb bowling and fielding effort saw all ten wickets fall, with eight of those catches. Looks like the pre-season fielding focus has worked!
The wickets were shared around in a bouncy wicket, with Lokendra Tomar taking the best spell with 2-12 off his six overs before collapsing to the ground and telling the captian he'd had enough after bowling up the hill.
Whilst in the interval though, the rain that everyone knew was coming arrived in a heavy downpour, resulting in the abandonment of the game.
Thanks to Old Basing who were fabulous hosts, and played the game in an excellent spirit.
HERRIARD II vs. HOOK & NEWNHAM BASICS III (H)
Similarly with the second team at home; although we always say that Herriard has it's own microclimate, the rain came put a stop to the match.
Before that, the team were put in to bat, with Mani Singh topping the scores with 42 in his opening stint. The rest of the team chipped in with starts, but weren't able to bring the score towards 200 after a 5fer for Jonathan Clark of Hook & Newnham Basics.
Both teams tried to continue, starting the second innings, but only four overs were completed, and that wasn;t enougb to determine a winner from the contest, with the second innings needing at least 20 overs as per league rules.
HERRIARD vs. ODIHAM & GREYWELL II (A)
Our midweek team travelled the short distance down the road to play Odiham & Greywell II and struggled to get going with the bat all innings. Apart from Nishin Haris with an unbeaten 55 not out, scores were low accross the rest of the order. The side managed to reach 127-9, which was short of expectation but gave us a score the defend.
Odiham's team got off to a good start but had their progress slowed following some good bowling in the middle overs. With the game in its last few overs, the game relatively tight, and the light dwindling, Andrew Butler produced a fantastic full-length, one handed diving catch at mid-wicket. Certainly one for the cameras. This wasn't enough to secure Herriard a victory though, with Odiham & Greywell II hitting the winning runs with five balls to spare.
